You never want to hear about anyone losing their job. Unfortunately, many full and part time Kroger employees are having to face this reality.

On June 2018, Kroger announced that it would be closing all 14 of its stores in Raleigh and Durham. To help these employees during this difficult time, Kroger partnered with the Capital Area Workforce Development Board, Durham Workforce Development Board, NC Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and others to host an internal hiring event.

This event took place on July 17-18 at the Hampton Inn in Brier Creek. There were quite a number of local businesses and organizations in attendance such as Duke University, Aramark, Lowe's Home Improvement, Sherwin-Williams, and Aidells, to name a few.

#NCWorks #NextGen in #Durham was also in attendance to connect with young adults aged 17-24. The #youth were eager to find new employment and had their resumes already prepared. Some knew what their career aspirations were while others indicated they needed assistance. They were excited to hear about the education, training and employment services we have to offer and looked forward to coming to our office to discuss their goals in great detail.

In addition to connecting with the young adults, we were also able to create new or reestablish partnerships with local businesses. Professionals from these businesses are looking forward to sharing their expertise on a host of different topics including, communication skills, financial planning, hiring practices, interviewing skills, and more.

In spite of the unfortunate circumstances that brought us together, there were some positive outcomes. Our hope is that everyone will be able to secure new employment with minimal interruptions. Good luck to all of the employees!
