See how this amazing young man has overcome some tough barriers and is on his way to becoming an electrician.
Originally from Bronx, NY, Tevin has traveled throughout the East coast and experienced many challenges in his life. After three years at Hillside High School, he decided to drop out of school and enroll in the YES program.
I am exceptionally proud of this young man and all of his accomplishments in the short period of time that I’ve known him... Tevin is what it looks like when you have a positive attitude and are not focus on the negative. ~ Ms. Crystal

Tevin becomes a part of the NextGen family
At #NCWorks #NextGen, Tevin began working with Career Coach Crystal Taylor. They formed a strong relationship with each other, began outlining his career goals and the steps it would take him to get there. Due to the personalized attention received, Tevin had the courage to go back to school at Achievement Academy of Durham to earn his GED. He attended classes regularly and has already passed three of the four required tests.
During this same time, Tevin also completed internships with Meineke Car Care Center and Rebuilding Together of the Triangle, where he helped remodel homes to be put back on the market. Now, he is enrolled in the Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship program through JATC. His goal is to become an electrician upon successful completion of the whole program.
During his work experiences, Tevin would either walk at least one mile to the designated pick up spot or made sure he had bus passes so he would make it to work on time every morning. He has never complained about having to be up extra early, is always smiling and in good spirits when Ms. Crystal talks to him. Tevin is always responsive, does everything asked of him and exemplifies excellent communication with Ms. Crystal. When given constructive criticism, he turns it into something positive. "Tevin is a true example of not letting your circumstances determine how your life will turn out, but taking your circumstances and creating the life that you want to live," said Ms. Crystal.
